Bicycle Glossary - J

Surely there are more words that begin with J. Can you think of any others? Let me know - Jeff

Jersey - A T-shirt especially designed for bicycle racing. Jerseys are also used for day tripping and touring because the same attributes which make them desirable to racers apply to other riding activities. Many jerseys are made from wool which wicks away moisture, offering an evaporative cooling effect when hot. If it starts to rain, the wool jersey insulates better than a wet cotton shirt. Jerseys are also brightly colored, to make bicyclists as visible as possible to motorists.

Junker - A bicycle with little monetary value. Sometimes junkers are actually functionally excellent, just not stylish or new. Many commuters prefer junkers because they are less prone to theft.
